FLOW: Water + Color in the North
Hosted by The Gallery at Venue in Fairbanks, Alaska: November, 2022
In nature, weather changes by the minute, seasons by the month, climate by the decade. Nowhere are these shifts more recognizable than in the flow of the water cycle. When precipitation starts to fall, rivers freeze up, or glaciers retreat, we notice - and often respond.
With this in mind and a sketchbook in tow, I spent the last year documenting ephemeral scenes and textures within Alaska’s water cycle. These sketches became the framework for Flow, a collection of paintings that invite us to consider our similarities with water. Just as we share an endless requirement for adaptation, we also have the unique power to shape nature and culture. How will our actions today affect the environment and our communities in the future?
In an ongoing effort for my art to support the places it depicts, 10% of the profits from this exhibit will be donated to the Northern Alaska Environmental Center.
